Scope of Position
The Cytogenetics Laboratory provides Fluorescent in situ Hybridization (FISH) and Chromosome analysis on inpatient and outpatient specimens received from the OSUWMC and other local and state hospitals and physicians. The Administrative Assistant will provide support services to the Cytogenetics Laboratory Leadership and laboratory in the form of general office duties including answering phone calls, general computer work, patient specimen accessioning, and general laboratory duties as assigned as well as more specialized duties such as technical cytogenetic report writing including ISCN nomenclature, collecting of lab QC/QA data and preparing detailed reports, and providing physicians and other medical staff with preliminary reports.
Position Summary
The Lab Services coordinator is responsible for providing customer service in the call center, send out referral testing, and providing leadership within the Central Processing area. Answers all incoming Customer Service calls and releases information within the HIPAA guidelines. Communicates with both internal customers and outside reference lab clients regarding patient testing platforms and results, enters patient results into the lab computer system as needed, and preserves test records per CAP/CLIA/TJC regulations. The Lab Services Coordinator works on projects of moderate scope and complexity and applies judgment within defined parameters and receives general guidance from department manager where their work is reviewed for sound reasoning and accuracy. Exchanges information on routine and non-routine matters. This position works in concert with the manager to enhance the education within the department and decrease turnover and increase patient experience. This specialist can assist with, but not limited to, timekeeping, scheduling, information technology, customer service recovery, education, and problem resolution, quality metrics, process improvement, testing guidelines within the laboratories. The position also can assists with, but not limited to, P3 evaluations, corrective action (as applicable), and personnel record keeping. Administrative duties can include, but not limited to, coordination of training for new employees and supervisory personnel, systemwide standardization of processes (as applicable), development and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and assistance with the ongoing work and development performed by the Laboratory Leadership.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
