Scope of Position 

The Certified Surgical Technologist is an essential member of the perioperative team, working collaboratively to ensure the success of patient procedures. The Certified Surgical Technologist assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating/procedural room, ensuring the availability of necessary instruments and supplies, and supporting the surgical team throughout the procedure. The Certified Surgical Technologist performs their specific roles and duties with high standards, to create an atmosphere that maximizes patient care outcomes, improving customer service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization and decreasing costs. The Certified Surgical Technologist reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm and mutual respect.

Position Summary 

The Certified Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Certified Surgical Technologist understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the surgeon’s needs. The Certified Surgical Technologist has expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and is constantly on vigil for maintaining the sterile field. Based on departmental needs, the Certified Surgical Technologist may be assigned rotating shifts and on-call duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a high school graduate or possess GED and must have completed formal Surgical Technology Training Program. Must hold CST or TS-C Certification.
