Scope of Position 

The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist functions as an integral member of the Department of Radiation Oncology (or its outreach/affiliates) of the Medical Center. The primary purpose of the Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is to create radiation treatment plans under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist utilizing clinical knowledge of anatomy and physiology; radiation biology and oncology; radiation safety and protection; mathematics; and radiation therapy techniques, physics, and technology. The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is also responsible for ancillary tasks associated with the design and development of treatment plans including segmentation, image registration, documentation, and information transfer.

 

Position Summary 

The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist’s primary responsibility is to accurately design and generate treatment plans by performing multiple steps of the treatment planning workflow. The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is responsible the importing of images, segmentation, image registration, plan design and development, dosimetry calculations, and quality control of treatment plans generated by other Medical Dosimetrists. The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is also responsible for radiation dosimetry calculations in situations where images are unable to be acquired (e.g., table simulations) and for supporting the continuity of care for patients who have received radiation therapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology. The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is also responsible for participating in the education and research missions of the Medical Center through active participation in clinical education and clinical projects. The Qualified Medical Dosimetrist is also responsible submitting data to investigator-initiated research studies and clinical trials.

 

Minimum Qualifications 

For Hire: Board Certified by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board within 2 years of hire. 0 years of relevant experience required, 1+ years of dosimetry experience preferred.

 

Ongoing: Meets standards and competencies of the job as assigned and required. Maintains board certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board.
