Scope of Position     

The Lab Services Technologist – IRP 2 provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria within the James Clinical Laboratories.  The James Clinical Laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation. The laboratory provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students.  The laboratory is staffed 10 hours per day, Monday through Friday with hours varying according to workflow and holidays.

Position Summary     

The Lab Services Technologist – IRP 2 performs routine automated and manual testing procedures, dispatches specimens to appropriate testing locations.  The Lab Services Technologist – IRP 2 will perform test requisition entry, ensures accuracy of test results, documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.  They will also verify reports, test request, accuracy and quality of specimens collected and trains others in these techniques. Will greet and direct patients, gather patient information necessary to complete registration to perform specimen collection by venipuncture and point of care testing.  The Lab Services Technologist – IRP 2 works under the direction of the lab manager and lead technologist(s).

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or biological science with MT certification.  Must obtain MT certification within one year from the date of hire.

On going: Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements.  Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
