Research Lead Technician performs work of a highly advanced technical or operational nature within the Department of Neurology serving as a specialist within the discipline or in a lead capacity for at least 1-2 resources. This role primarily achieves results through individual effort, acting as the primary owner/authority on specific programs or processes, and requires advanced knowledge of processes and tools typically gained through extensive on-the-job training or certification. The incumbent is responsible for anticipating, recognizing, and solving the most complex issues within the team, performing work with limited supervision and often without well-defined procedures. Key duties include independently conducting assigned experiments (e.g., histology, flow cytometry, behavior, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cell cultures); overseeing research data integrity and entry; training and mentoring new staff and students in specialized methods and equipment operation; testing and evaluating current procedures; making decisions that may set new precedent (with supervisory support); and summarizing data and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals, manuscripts, and publications. This position routinely uses diplomacy and persuasion to communicate sensitive information and accomplish objectives with internal and external partners.
