Scope of Position
The Digital Pathology Program utilizes high-throughput automated scanners to capture slide images, which are viewed digitally through utilization of imaging software. The digital images are interpreted by a pathologist, and findings are utilized to support diagnosis for patient care, clinical trials, and research activities. The Digital Processing Tech will be responsible for all pre and post analytical steps involved in digitizing Surgical Pathology slides received from OSUWMC patients and outside clients. This includes imaging of microscopic slides, distribution of slides, and quality assurance of images, data review of errors, as well as equipment knowledge and troubleshooting for end-to-end digital pathology workflows.
Position Summary
The Digital Processing Technician provides high quality customer service for the Digital Pathology Program. This position involves the preparation and processing of microscopy slides for scanning, directing of materials to the appropriate pathologists and other pathology personnel, as well as responds to requests for diagnostic pathology specimens from OSUWMC patients and outside clients. The Digital Processing Technician will utilizing Beaker and the digital informatics software for tracking various stages of completion. This position does interact with pathologists and collaborates with other pathology services i.e., Histology, Surgical Pathology, and IHC on a daily basis. The Digital Processing Technician reports to the Manager of Pathology Support Services and takes direction from the Clinical Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
For Hire: High school education required; Associates degree or higher preferred in medical laboratory technology or biological science; and 2 years of equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ongoing: Meets minimum continuing education requirements; meets health surveillance requirements. Demonstrates competence in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions.
