Position Scope

The Utility Outage Coordinator manages utility outages that ensure effective and efficient operation of the health system utility systems.  This position ensures that scheduled outages adhere to medical center management plans and processes.  The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.  Operations of the Medical Center are ongoing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.   This position may respond to emergency situations, such as electrical and mechanical system outages, and may assist with the evaluation of and correction of problems.

Position Summary 

The Utility Outage Coordinator evaluates proposed outages; identifies impacted utilities and stakeholders; performs risk assessment and mitigates risks; schedules and communicates utility outages to all stakeholders; ensures work is completed within project requirements, regulatory codes, budget, and performance standards; maintains documentation and records to comply with regulatory requirements; and conducts contractor training and quality inspections. These positions are subject to call-back and alternating shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire:

  • Two-year college degree OR equivalent education and/or experience.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in equipment and facilities operations, preferably in commercial or health care facilities.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, coordination, and planning skills.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, medical gas, DDC and pneumatic control systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure atmosphere.
  • Read and understand electrical/mechanical blueprints and drawings.
  • Basic knowledge or ability to gain knowledge in codes and standards.
  • Excellent customer relations skills.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license.
