Scope of Position
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead works with APP and Division leadership and will function in liaison, oversight, and mentoring roles for other advanced practice providers. Administrative and reporting responsibilities as per department expectations. Interacts with the division workforce at large on issues related to advanced practice providers. Assigned responsibility for mentoring advanced practice providers and is designated expert for advanced practice in the division. Provides clinical and day-to-day leadership and mentoring in matters relating to advanced practice and the professional development of APRNs or PAs for serving as the liaison between the APRN/PAs and upper-level advanced practice management (APP Manager and APP Director).
The APP Lead is responsible for providing health care services to patients within the parameters of a standard care or supervisory agreement with an attending physician member of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Collaborates with a physician (s) and other clinicians in providing a full scope of patient care. The focus is on preventive health or the management of acute and/or stable chronic conditions. Performs medical services that have been specifically authorized and directed by the credentialing body and the certifying organization through which they hold licensure.
Position Summary
The APP Lead provides health care services to patients working in collaboration with a licensed physician member of the medical staff. Healthcare services provided include care during acute and chronic phases of illness, education, and counseling of individuals and families, health promotion and prevention, and referral to other healthcare providers and community resources when appropriate
Minimum Qualifications
Required: Master's of Science Degree or DNP in Nursing or Master's in Physician Assistant Science. APRN License with Certification as an NP or PA-C. 2 years of relevant experience required.
Preferred: 2-4 years of neurology experience preferred.
The Lead APP assists in managing a team of ambulatory advanced practice providers. The APP Lead helps to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the health care services provided by advance practice providers. Under the guidance of the Manager, the APP Lead helps to guide and evaluate the professionalism, work performance and needs of inpatient and outpatient providers. They will assist with coaching APPs, evaluating professional development & assessing quality of care provided by the team and its individual members. The Lead APP provides on-going performance management feedback to both the employees they support and the manager. They are expected to provide, at minimum, monthly communication forums to the team. They assist with the Buckeye Performance process by providing feedback, performing midyear reviews, and developing annual KRA goals among other administrative roles. The APP Lead contributes to the ongoing operations (staffing, scheduling, vacation coverage) of the divisions they work with. They collaborate with other departments, areas or disciplines that relate to APP practice, directly or indirectly. They work with division/department leadership and function as a first-line liaison and advocate by interacting with division workforce at large on issues related to advanced practice. The APP Lead is a resource for administrators, physician leadership, APP staff and the community.
