Medical Information Management

The Medical Information Management (MIM) Department at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center plays a crucial role in maintaining, securing, and ensuring the integrity of patient information. Their responsibilities encompass supporting patient care, education, research, health system operations, connect site affiliates and administrative needs. By effectively managing medical record data and information resources, they ensure that accurate and confidential patient information is readily available for making informed medical decisions. The department adheres to hospital policies, procedures, bylaws, and third-party regulatory requirements, upholding high standards for medical record-keeping.

Patient Identity Management

The Chart Correction Analyst is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the electronic medical record. Primarily focused on patient identity and chart corrections, this role involves identifying and rectifying existing charting errors and communicating relevant concerns across the health system. They are vigilant in recognizing instances where a patient’s record has been overwritten, promptly responding to potential identity theft cases, and addressing patients documented erroneously. This area understands how the various registration and clinical systems interface to troubleshoot and determine the appropriate course of action when errors are identified. This area understands how identity events impact and contribute to compliance, privacy, patient safety, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. The position requires strong communication and collaboration with all MIM Operations, Compliance & Integrity office, clinical care team, patient access, information technology, ancillary departments, electronic medical record build team, connect affiliates and risk management. Their expertise ensures that patient data remains accurate and secure, supporting optimal healthcare outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications 

A bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or an equivalent field is required, with a master’s degree in Business Administration, Computer and Information Science, or Public Administration preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant experience, with 4–8 years preferred, and demonstrate considerable progressively responsible administrative experience in medical information management. Certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) is preferred. Additionally, knowledge of and experience with electronic health records and health information management applications is highly desirable.
