Scope of Position 

The OSU Wexner Medical Center is dedicated to increasing participation in preventive care, including screening for cancer, and addressing other preventable causes of death in the community and the patients who engaged for care at the OSU Wexner Medical Center.

Position Summary

The Community Outreach Specialist will help deliver community outreach efforts and initiatives in Central Ohio to support the delivery of the full continuum of cancer screening. Community outreach, cancer prevention and screening education together with evidence-based intervention programs support will be provided in Central Ohio. This position will require traveling throughout Central Ohio and flexibility to work evenings and weekends. This position will develop engagement tools for cancer screening in the Wexner Medical Center, in the community and related efforts and collect and track data, weekly, for screening participation, including patients screened for colorectal and lung cancers in clinical practices and in the community. This position may include special projects, including food pantry initiatives, and other projects as assigned by the PI or manager.  The analyst will act as the representative of the research program on promoting screening for colorectal and lung cancers as well as cancer-related conditions. The position will connect activities of the research program to partners and implement evidence-based cancer screening and prevention initiatives in Central Ohio and other locations as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: A bachelor’s degree in public health, education, or related field with emphasis in Community Health or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.  Applicants who have demonstrated participation in community leadership roles, experience in program evaluation, and considerable experience in Community Outreach and/or Community Health Worker Certification are preferred. Experience in program implementation is desirable.

Ongoing: Ability to initiate and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders at the Wexner Medical Center and the community and serve the central Ohio region as a team. Develop understanding of communities served and community connectedness. Effective communication skills, such as listening well, and using language appropriately
