Scope of Position

Histology is the branch of biology which studies the microscopic structure of biological tissue. Histology technologists prepare very thin slices of human tissue and stain the tissue sections so that the pathologists can analyze those sections through a microscope. Histology technologists play a crucial role in allowing medical professionals to determine the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses/diseases.

Position Summary

Histology Technologist to work in the Histology Laboratory within the Division of Surgical Pathology in the Department of Pathology; with light, or no, direct supervision, processes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue specimens in a high volume patient care lab utilizing tissue processors, embedding centers, microtomes, stainers and coverslippers; processes, cuts and stains formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue samples for patient diagnosis; prepares and changes reagents and properly disposes chemical wastes; sorts, delivers and files slides and blocks; assists with ordering, receiving, labeling, and stocking incoming supplies and reagents; assists with quality control and quality assurance record keeping; assists in training personnel as needed; completes and organizes paperwork; assists with maintenance of equipment; other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Associate Degree and one year of histology experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Bachelor's Degree preferred. Some positions will require ASCP (HT/HTL) certification within 2 years of hire.

Third Shift; Start times as early as 8:00 PM can be considered.
