Scope of Position
Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, prepares unit dose and intravenous medications for dispensing to patients. Makes scheduled deliveries to appointed nursing units to deliver medications to patients. Maintains stock levels of medications to avoid delays in service to patients. Demonstrates the ability to work as a member of a team. Senior Technicians must participate in continuing educational opportunities to meet the annual competency requirements. A Senior Technician assists pharmacists, technician specialists, and technician team managers with productivity management, training, mentoring of new staff, special projects, and committee meetings. A Senior Technician complies with all hospital and department rules and regulations and will conduct themselves in a positive and encouraging manner conducive to the hospital, the department, and administrations visions and values.
Position Summary
This position functions to assist the licensed pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical services to patients, as well as providing necessary services and information to nursing and medical staff. These services include preparation and packaging of moderate, complex medications, distribution of advanced medications, supplies and equipment, maintaining proper inventory levels, ensuring medications are in date and secure, keeping appropriate records and documentation, and submitting patient charges. This position is also responsible for supporting initiatives of area supervisors and managers.
Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate or equivalent
Certified Pharmacy Technician
2 years of relevant experience required
4-6 years of relevant experience preferred
