Position Summary

Research Scientist to conduct complex scientific investigations in a foundational (basic) research laboratory in the Department of Pathology functioning as an experienced specialist in studying development and function of cortical interneurons.

  • Supports and conducts complex scientific investigations in the field of neurobiology within a foundational (basic) research laboratory, with specialized expertise in molecular and cellular biology, two-photon live imaging, small animal surgery, histology, transcriptomics, and behavioral testing

  • Focuses on understanding the development and function of cortical interneurons using a multidisciplinary approach

  • Collaborates closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to develop, plan, manage, and execute advanced research projects. This includes designing experimental strategies, implementing sophisticated molecular and neurobiological techniques, and performing in-depth data analysis to interpret and predict experimental outcomes

  • Contributes to the advancement of research through the development and refinement of experimental methods, and plays a key role in the conceptualization and execution of new projects

  • Serves as a technical consultant to other investigators, particularly in areas involving complex imaging, animal models, and omics-based analyses

  • Maintains high standards of scientific rigor and innovation throughout all phases of research

  • Actively contributes to the dissemination of research findings by preparing manuscripts, abstracts, and reports for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Regularly presents research results at national and international conferences and scientific meetings

  • Plays an active role in the identification and pursuit of external funding opportunities and participates in the development and submission of fellowship and grant applications

  • May serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) in accordance with The Ohio State University’s research policies

  • Provides strategic input on funding sources and develops collaborative relationships with potential research sponsors

  • Manages daily laboratory operations, including oversight of laboratory equipment maintenance, negotiation of service contracts, and coordination of procurement processes for research supplies

  • Participates in the development and implementation of laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs) and animal protocols

  • Provides guidance, training, and supervision to research personnel at various levels, including undergraduate and graduate students, research technicians, and postdoctoral fellows

  • Assists with onboarding of new lab members and facilitates the transfer of knowledge through hands-on training and mentorship

  • Promotes a collaborative and educational environment that supports the professional development of all lab members
