The lab of Dr. Sabhya Rana, in the Department of Neuroscience, seeks a highly motivated Research Senior Associate who will participate in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in the Rana Lab. Our lab studies neural circuits that control breathing and how respiratory function is impacted in disease and injury. We are also developing therapeutic strategies (non-invasive spinal stimulation, pharmacological targets) to improve respiratory motor function in spinal cord injury models.
A key role of the Research Senior Associate will be to manage daily operations of the laboratory, oversee and initiate procurement of lab supplies and equipment, provides technical assistance and supervision of equipment and subsequent negotiation and oversight of equipment service contracts and repairs. RA2 will also be expected to monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations, including proper disposal and maintenance of regulated materials
The successful candidate is expected to have a background in neurophysiology, molecular and cellular biology, with the versatility and adaptability to learn and execute both basic and translational neuroscience and physiology techniques. They will perform experiments using in vivo rat models of spinal cord injury and conduct critical analysis of relevant literature. Additionally, Research Senior Associate will develop and implement new or revised research methodologies and techniques, maintain meticulous records, and analyze, interpret, and present data. The role also involves assisting in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentations at local and national conferences and workshops, as well as aiding the principal investigator in preparing proposals for new or renewed extramural funding. Strong communication skills, the ability to coordinate laboratory activities, and manage periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment are essential. The candidate will also oversee work assignments for other graduate and undergraduate researchers and staff.
Minimum Education Required
Master’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree or equivalent experience required; 3 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree, or 1 year of relevant experience required with Master's Degree. Considerable experience in a biological/health research capacity is required. A Doctoral degree in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable.
