We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Animal Technician and research assistant to support our research studies involving animal models. The successful candidate will direct maintenance and caring for laboratory animals, perform experimental procedures, and ensure compliance with animal welfare regulations. Key responsibilities will involve monitoring, genotyping and maintaining laboratory animals (e.g., mice). The individual will be expected to assist in the preparation and execution of experiments involving animals, maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments and breeding. Projects will involve investigating the innate immune system to enhance cancer immunotherapy targeting pancreatic cancer, breast cancer and leukemia in the Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology with researchers in the PIIO, Center for Innate Immunity and Inflammation (CIII). Knowledge of animal handling, record keeping and husbandry techniques is required. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and good communication skills and an understanding of lab safety procedures is required. Ability to carry out molecular and cellular techniques including primary cell culture, western blotting, quantitative Realtime PCR; helping in vivo experiments for cancer model; collects, analyzes and interprets research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques; tests experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods and make recommendations for utilization; assists in establishment of controls, criteria and research standards; performs critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken preferred; assists in the preparation of research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and international conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents; assists principal investigator in the preparation of proposals to obtain new or renewal of extramural funding in support of research; coordinates laboratory activities and work assignments of postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, and laboratory research staff; oversees and coordinates periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment; performs additional duties as assigned.
Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required + 2 years of experience
