Scope/Position Summary

The Specialty Practice Pharmacist – Medication Safety is a leader in formulating policy and instituting models that promote medication safety in all aspects of the medication management process. Working collaboratively with identified multidisciplinary leadership teams, the role is responsible for administering the medication safety program on behalf of the Department of Pharmacy. These activities include, but are not limited to: reporting, system and process evaluation, formulation of recommendations and initiatives, coordination of intervention strategies, and monitoring of activities related to medication safety. This individual also functions as a liaison between pharmacy, nursing, medical staff leadership, and quality personnel. This position is also responsible for supervising Pharm.D. students, pharmacy interns, undergraduate and graduate student teaching, and providing educational programs for hospital staff (physicians, nurses, and pharmacy staff).

Minimum Qualifications

This position must be a licensed pharmacist in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy. A Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) is required and an advanced administrative degree (M.S., MHA, MPH, MBA) and/or prior medication safety experience is preferred.  Post-graduate residency training and a significant track record in scholarship and teaching are preferred.
