Scope of Position   The James Laboratory provides comprehensive, time sensitive laboratory services to patients with a variety of diagnoses or admission/discharge criteria.  The James laboratory staff performs testing on patient specimens utilizing chemistry, immunochemistry, coagulation, hematology, urinalysis, and assists with bone marrow procedures. The lab provides training for residents, new staff and medical technology students. The laboratory is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Position Summary     

The student laboratory technologist performs routine automated and manual procedures, verifies and reports test requests and results. Handles phone inquiries regarding patient results, specimen collection and testing frequency. James staff uses the laboratory computer system to review report and call critical values to various healthcare professionals.  Laboratory staff performs and documents quality control, quality assurance and preventative maintenance on instrumentation.  Student medical laboratory technicians work under the direction of the Lab manager and lead technologist.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire:      Enrolled in a four year or two year science related field.  Prefer the program to be in medical technology.

   On going:      Meets mandatory hospital education and health surveillance requirements.  Demonstrates competence

                          in technical, interpersonal, and cognitive skills required to meet essential job functions
