User Experience Specialist - Research Information Technology

The Senior User Experience (UX) Specialist provides specialized expertise to the Research User Experience and Design core within Research Information Technology through the authoring, execution, analysis and synthesis of both generative and evaluative research efforts which is designed to elicit, synthesize and contextualize insights for next-generation digital applications, systems, tools and services that advance health sciences research.

With support, this UX specialist engages diverse stakeholders to solicit and achieve shared understanding of user experience requirements and goals across a wide range of digital applications and experiences for research faculty, hospital administration, clinicians and research participants. Experience planning, executing, analyzing and reporting UX research activities in the following areas: UX front end research and UX validation research of digital applications systems, tools and services with a focus on the utility, usability and desirability of the final product. Balances and reconciles user and business requirements, regulatory compliance, accessibility standards along with research/clinical best practices.

Seeks consensus to co-author specification documents for use by software development teams with support from senior team members. Partners with developers as an embedded UX professional and provides UX advocacy and support as a part of a broader software development team with support from senior team members. Advocates for end users as key stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle. Leads and manages small UX projects independently and contributes to medium and large initiatives with support from senior team members.

Continuously cultivates, applies, and disseminates knowledge of UX trends, processes and technologies. Works within the Research User Experience and Design core to both share and learn professional competencies.

Minimum Education Required

Master's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in Design Research, Co-Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Testing, User Testing and/or Computer & Information Science or equivalent.

Required Qualifications

2 years of relevant professional experience. Tangible experience in information technology with demonstrable knowledge of digital systems and the software development lifecycle for both waterfall and agile projects required. Demonstrable ability to develop and apply innovative approaches to understanding, documenting and advocating for user requirements within digital applications, systems, tools and services. Access to digital a UX portfolio required for consideration.

Desired Qualifications

Preferred candidates are UX generalists that understand how UX research, UX prototyping and UX validation are related and have not only tangible experience in one of three domains but also a working knowledge of all three domains. Candidates with experience in the Healthcare domain and/or working with College Faculty are preferred.
