Serves as Research Operations Coordinator for the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, overseeing and managing daily laboratory operations of the department’s Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) research facilities (~23 labs); serves as primary contact for compliance, procedural, and equipment issues; ensures compliance with federal, state and university standards; provides instruction on regulatory issues; manages safety programs; communicates with principal investigators and lab personnel to maintain cohesive and efficient regulatory and research activities across department; maintains laboratory equipment and manuals and arranges for maintenance, repairs and certification; coordinates scheduling and use of core equipment and equipment training events; assists with equipment inventory; coordinates and participates in inspections, audits, and site visits; serves as primary contact for Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Facilities Operations and Development (FOD); coordinates laboratory modifications; conducts training; assists with research components of employee onboarding; reviews and maintains standard operating procedure documents (SOPs), Chemical Hygiene Plan, chemical inventory, exposure plans, licenses; provides guidance to PIs in writing regulatory documents; ensures protocols meet laboratory, specimen, and processing requirements; organizes and leads monthly Lab Manager meetings; attends Department meetings.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. 2 years of relevant experience required. 2-4 years of relevant experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
Considerable knowledge and experience managing state and federal regulations, guidelines and compliance issues in a research environment required; considerable knowledge of laboratory methods, materials, and equipment required; experience managing facility and laboratory operations desired; experience working with multiple labs desired.
