Post Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education, and experience under the guidance of the Principal Investigator in the Department of Molecular Medicine & Therapeutics (Nishiga Lab); plans, designs, and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity focusing on the mechanisms of heart failure and cardiomyopathies; conducts advanced cell biology research utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), including reprogramming, maintenance, and differentiation into cardiomyocytes and non-myocyte cells; utilizes CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing to model genetic cardiovascular diseases; performs molecular biology techniques (qPCR, Western blotting, cloning, library preparation for omics); collects and analyzes data; actively prepares and submits fellowship grant applications; contributes to manuscript preparation; mentors junior lab members; attends research seminars; performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education Required

Doctoral degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Medicine, or related field required.

Required Qualifications

Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated expertise in human iPSC culture (reprogramming and differentiation) is strongly preferred. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing. Background in cardiovascular physiology or heart failure mechanisms. Proven track record of productivity (first-author publications); strong scientific writing skills to apply for funding/fellowships.

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards; requires successful completion of EHS safety training; frequently sits at a computer or microscope; frequently stands to perform bench work; occasionally lifts objects up to 20 lbs (e.g., reagent boxes); requires visual acuity to perform microscopy and analyze data.
