The laboratory of Dr. Acharya studies how cellular and molecular determinants in the neuro-immune axis influence cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis. She is also researching the role of neuro-immune crosstalk and how this process shapes anti-tumor immune responses. This work will significantly increase our understanding of how tumors develop and grow, help to identity new biomarkers for cancer diagnosis, and define novel targets for therapeutic interventions. The Acharya Lab is seeking a Research Associate 1 to provide technical support for this research. The Research Associate 1 will perform the following:

  • Participate in planning and design of research projects. Execute and manage research projects using molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, tissue culture, PCR and flow cytometry; prepares solutions and culture media; collects, sorts and processes tissue and blood samples. Participate in developing and implementing goals and objectives of studies.
  • Collect, analyze and interpret research data; assists with development and implementation of new and/or revised research methodologies and techniques. Perform critical analysis of literature relevant to research being undertaken. Assist in the preparation of research grant proposals, research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at national and conferences and workshops, and in the writing of project reports, articles and other documents.
  • Monitor and enforce laboratory safety procedures to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, as well as local, state and federal regulations.
  • Train research staff; manages daily operations of the laboratory.
  • Oversees and initiates procurement of lab supplies and equipment, and monitor expenses.
  • Oversee and coordinate periodic maintenance and testing of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate biological/health science or equivalent experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic and/or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required
  • Experience in a biological/health science research capacity is preferred
  • Requires successful completion of a background check
