The Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University invites applications for a full-time visiting research scholar position in Dr. Shanlin Ke’s lab. The overarching goal of Dr. Ke’s lab is to develop computational approaches and leveraging bioinformatics tools, metagenomic sequencing, multi-omics data, machine learning, and wet-lab techniques to investigate the role of the human microbiome in human health and diseases and to develop microbiome-based therapeutics. The candidate will have the opportunity to learn and lead exciting research projects that integrate computational and experimental approaches to study host-microbiota interactions in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.

Required Qualification:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related discipline is required by the start of position.
  • Experience in conducting microbiome research, including processing metagenomic sequencing data and wet-lab experiments.
  • Strong programming skills (e.g., R and Python).
  • Experience with cloud computing.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and a strong publication record.

Desired Qualification:

  • Strong background/interest in host-microbiota interaction in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer.
  • Strong background/interest in machine learning, in vivo and in vitro experiments.

Responsibilities:

The researcher will primarily conduct microbiome research under the guidance of their mentor, include:          

  • Organizing and conducting the analysis of multi-omics data. (40%)
  • Validating computational findings through wet-lab experiments. (40%)
  • Participating in outreach programs and scientific communication efforts.  (10%)       
  • Disseminating research findings to the scientific community through presentations, seminars, and peer-reviewed publications. (10%)
